Selous Game Reserve, established by the Germans in 1896 and gazetted by colonial Germany government in 1905, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1982. It has the largest concentration of elephants in Tanzania and 430 bird species whose livelihood is the mighty Rufiji River, the largest in East Africa.
